Pilates is an effective form of movement training that conditions the entire body and mind together to improve your strength and flexibility, posture, coordination and overall body awareness. Pilates takes its name from its founder, Joseph Pilates, who developed the system in the 1920's as a way to rehabilitate injured soldiers in his internment camp during WW1.   Pilates created a system, which had the perfect balance of strength and flexibility, developing a healthy body as well as a healthy mind.

Pilates is a great form of exercise to try if you are new to exercise or if you are looking to find something to compliment any other physical activities that you might already take part in. Pilates aims to create a sense of balance within the body, by restoring good alignment through movement, re-awakening the deeper intrinsic muscles, and developing the core postural muscles that help keep the body balanced and provide support for the spine. Alongside the benefits already mentioned, regular Pilates can help to reduce muscle tension and joint pain as you begin to train your body to move with good form - encouraging safe and correct movement patterns within the body - which you will naturally take into your everyday life.
